Business & Trade Secretary Visits the U.S

Writer: Ben Bradford Ben Bradford

This week Jonathan Reynolds, the Business & Trade Secretary, met with U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer and U.S. Special Envoy Mark Burnett in Washington DC.

The meeting was on the back of last month’s agreement between the Prime Minister and U.S. President to work towards a UK-U.S. Economic Prosperity Deal.

On the visit, Jonathan Reynolds said:

"The UK and the US share deep trade ties built over many, many years, which benefit industry businesses and consumers on both sides of the Atlantic. We have over £1.2 trillion invested in each other’s economies, across sectors from financial services to renewables. And this must not change. We’re putting engagement over escalation as we seek to strengthen this crucial relationship.

It is hoped that talks will continue over the next few months to develop an Economic Deal which is agreeable for both parties.
