Yesterday (1st August) HMRC released another reminder to businesses of the upcoming migration from CHIEF to CDS.
For businesses submitting import declarations, they must use CDS from 1 October 2022 as CHIEF will be closed for import declarations. Though many businesses are already using CDS, whether that is internally or via an intermediary, HMRC calculates that around 3,500 businesses are yet to make the move to CDS.
Though the deadline may be a couple of months away, HMRC warns that it can take several weeks to be fully set-up on the Customs Declaration Service. Unless businesses look to take urgent action, they risk being unable to import goods from 1st October 2022.
For exporters, CHIEF will close for export declarations on 31st March 2023.
